Following a period of pandemic delay, a popular series of 10K events from Run 4 Wales (R4W) will return in full next year across a number of unique locations.
The Healthspan Wales 10K Series is an exciting series of races, renowned for its beautiful courses and sector leading event experience will in 2022 offer four live events in Cardiff Bay, Porthcawl, Barry Island and Newport plus an innovative new virtual event.
It will kick start with the popular Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run on 22 May, on a course that takes in all of Cardiff Bay’s most iconic landmarks. Next up, throughout the month of June, runners will have the opportunity to take part in the innovative new R4W Virtual 10K – from any worldwide location.
As spring turns to summer, those taking part can look forward to the Healthspan Porthcawl 10K on 3 July and the ABP Barry Island 10K on 7 August before the ABP Newport Wales 10K rounds up the series in the autumn, alongside the ABP Newport Wales Marathon on Sunday 23 October.
Almost 18,000 runners stepped up their regular Saturday parkrun to enjoy events across the series when it was last held in full throughout 2019 – which also attracted some of the UK’s top elite athletes.
In 2021, both the Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run and ABP Newport Wales 10K were delivered as ‘breathable events’, following the lifting of restrictions on outdoor events. A number of additional measures were in place to ensure the health and safety of those attending and to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Entries are now on sale for all five events, with a Season Ticket and Multi-Event Pass offer discounted entries when registering for two or more events, with savings of up to £23 on offer.
There are just 1,000 discounted spaces available in each race via the Multi-Event Pass, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those keen to take on a R4W 10K in 2022 are encouraged to register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
A spokesman for Healthspan added: “We are delighted that the Healthspan Porthcawl 10K will be returning in 2022 after the pandemic forced the postponement of the race last year. This partnership allows us to contribute and share our commitment to health and wellbeing by being part of an event that encourages all abilities to get involved. We hope that our range of advanced vitamins and supplements will contribute towards a few personal bests!”
Eleri Morgan, Brand Manager at Brecon Carreg commented: “We’re thrilled that Brecon Carreg will once again be the title sponsor for the Cardiff Bay Run in 2022. Committing to maintain our role as title sponsor will allow us to continue working with Run 4 Wales to build on the fantastic awareness that their events give us, as well as strengthening our messaging around sustainability and recycling.”
Simon Brown, Divisional Port Manager, ABP Wales & South West said: ““We are proud to return as title partners for the Newport Wales 10K and Barry Island 10K in 2022. These events are more than just running events but real community occasions and in areas where so many of our staff and customers live and work.”
